Cheryl Greenberg, Paul E. Raether Distinguished Professor of History, Emerita at Trinity College in Hartford, CT will speak to CMI members.
Professor Greenberg has taught courses on African American history, civil rights, race and ethnicity in the US, and other varied social and cultural history topics. Her research interests range from African American communities during the Great Depression to grass-roots organizing in the Civil Rights movement, from postwar liberalism to Black-Jewish relations, with her latest research focused on twentieth century debates over civil liberties and hate speech among civil rights agencies. She is also engaged with issues of race and mass incarceration. She is a frequently-invited public speaker and commentator.
Professor Greenberg is the author of three books, “Or Does It Explode?” Black Harlem in the Great Depression; Troubling the Waters: Black-Jewish Relations in the American Century, and To Ask for an Equal Chance: African Americans in the Great Depression.
