CMI Security Updates
Dear CMI Family,
We are grateful that yesterday's horrific incident at Congregation Beth Israel concluded with no physical harm to those involved and we continue to pray for r'fuah shleima, complete healing of mind, body and spirit, for everyone affected. Please know that Rabbi Immerman is always available for pastoral counseling.
These situations invite us to reflect on our own safety and security. At CMI, we are fortunate to have established strong working relationships with our local and national law enforcement leaders. The security of our synagogue building is a priority and both the Hamden Police and FBI regularly evaluate our procedures and building. In December, CMI was the first local Jewish congregation to invite the new Secure Community Network’s regional security advisor to the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven, Michael Shanbrom, to visit our facilities.
Mr. Shanbrom grew up at CMI and has 24 years of experience working in local and national law enforcement. He is excited to be working with CMI staff and Board members on assessing the security risks at our synagogue building and cemetery. In the coming weeks we will examine the various opportunities to ensure we are secured and prepared for the worst-case situations.
Earlier today our president Michael Dimenstein, along with other Board members, attended a special security briefing and will bring these suggestions to our conversations with Mr. Shanbrom. If you have any questions or concerns about security, please reach out to Michael Dimenstein.
As we continue our weekend of celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and legacy we are grateful to you and our interfaith community for the support you have expressed throughout the tense hours yesterday.
Shavuah tov, may we all enjoy a week of peace.
Rabbi Brian P. Immerman
Micahel Dimenstein, President
