Rosh Chodesh

  • Congregation Mishkan Israel 785 Ridge Road Hamden, CT, 06517 United States (map)

Hebrew for “head of the month” – is the monthly holiday that celebrates the arrival of the new moon, marking the start of a new month in the Jewish calendar. In biblical times, Rosh Chodesh was a day of festive meals and refraining from doing business. Later, it became a special holiday for women.

Our  intergenerational group provides for female identifying and non-binary individuals thirteen and older a place to meet, form bonds, find meaningful ways to worship and contribute to our community through discussion, song, poetry, storytelling, art, dance, and even food. Programs are themed, based on the interests of group members.

Join us on Tuesday, February 21 for Rosh Chodesh Adar as we explore our emotional relationships with jewelry and other keepsakes.

We will briefly discuss the special connection between the holiday and jewelry and then we invite you to share…

Please bring a piece of jewelry (or other small keepsake, if jewelry just isn’t your thing) that has special meaning to you. It can be homemade, handed down, or linked to a special person, place, or time. Or if you prefer, just come and listen.

We hope you will share a story about your special piece. For sake of time, we ask that each story not exceed 3-4 minutes.

We’ll leave time at the end for schmoozing, so if you’d like to bring wine, sweets, or other simple snacks, please do. We will, as always, have tea and water.
