Israeli Perspectives on Preserving Democracy

Join Professors Ruth Halperin-Kaddari and Ittai Bar-Simon-Tov, Professors of Law at Bar-Ilan University, along with other local Israeli academics and Israeli Yale alumni/ae, for a community conversation about how Israelis, at home and abroad, feel about the recently proposed judicial reforms and what is at stake should they be implemented. 

 

RUTH HALPERIN-KADDARI is an Israeli legal scholar and international women's rights advocate who is known for her work on family law, feminist legal theory, women's rights in international law, and women and religion. She is Professor of Law at the Bar-Ilan University and is the founding Academic Director of the Ruth and Emanuel Rackman Center for the Advancement of the Status of Women. She is also involved in international academic collaborations on the theme of women, state, and religion, and participates in international litigations as an expert on Israeli family law. Ruth is a graduate of the Yale School of Law (JSD YLS 1993), as well as a Former Member and Vice-President of the UN Experts Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
 

ITTAI BAR-SIMON-TOV is an Associate Professor at Bar Ilan University Faculty of Law, where he also serves as co-director of the dual degree program in law and political science, and Head of BIU Innovation Lab for Law, Data Science and Digital Ethics. He is also General Editor of the international journal The Theory and Practice of Legislation, and founding Co-Chair of the Israeli Association of Legislation.
