There are two sources of truth in Judaism, the truth of the Torah and the truth of personal experience. In Torah Study, we bring these two truths together -- combined with the teachings of the Rabbis -- to determine the path of personal belief and life.
You don't need to be able to read Hebrew for Torah Study, and no prior experience is required. I like to think of Torah Study as a conversation among the spiritually curious. Each Torah Study session will begin with a reading and discussion of a selection from the weekly Torah portion. Next, we'll consider insights from any number of Jewish sources -- such as the URJ Torah Commentary, The Book of Legends (Bialik and Ravnitzky), Torah Commentary of Our Time (Fields), Biblical Women Speak (Feldman) -- to deepen and widen our discussion. Above all, we make sure to include all voices around the table, as people wish to speak.
