Join us as we followup our three-part fall series on antisemitism. The CMI Education Task Force will present two movie nights. The evenings will be both entertaining and intellectually challenging. Before each showing there will be an informative introduction and after each there will be opportunities for discussion.
On Saturday, April 18 at 7 pm Allan Hillman will introduce the 1991 film "Prisoner of Honor" starring Richard Dreyfuss. This film, deemed "powerfully convincing" by the New York Times, explores the false accusation of treason against the Jewish military officer Alfred Dreyfus and his subsequent exoneration. This 1890's incident influenced Theodor Herzl in his advocacy for a Jewish homeland.
On Thursday, May 14 at 7 pm Professor Penny Marcus will lead the discussion of the 1970 film "The Garden of the Finzi-Continis" which won the 1972 Academy Award for best foreign film. The film concerns the growing threats during the 1930's to the affluent and assimilated Jewish Italian community. Both films offer opportunities to analyze not only historical but also modern circumstances and how, if at all, we can learn from the past.
Both are free and open to the entire community.
